Hello and Welcome on my unofficial Suzuki SC100 Homepage.
Logo
In the late 70s, Suzuki Motor Corp. Japan started producing automobiles for the export to European countries. Together with the tiny off roader LJ80 (extra website under preparation), the model shown on this page was one of the first Suzuki passenger vehicles built with LHD for Europe. Nevertheless, only a few of these three door coupe like cars found their way to our roads, mainly in Belgium and the Netherlands. As one of the last representatives of rear engine passenger vehicles it had a bit of an exotic appeal when compared to its competitors which already had front engine and front wheel drive. Yet, it did have a number of interesting features. I prepared this website with images and a brief technical description to prevent it from being completely forgotten.
First Chapter
Oblique front view. The body design still revealed typical Japanese styling of the seventies (model year 1979/80).
Despite the rear mounted engine, the front grille was no fake with the coolant circuit linking engine and radiator by two very long coolant hoses mounted on the vehicle underfloor.
The X-Ray view shows the rear mounted four cylinder in-line engine. With a wheelbase of 2.03 metres and a light 655 kg curb weight the tiny coupe was easily manoeuvrable and sporty. The outer dimensions were 3.20 m (overall length), 1.39 m (width) and 1.22 m (height) with a tyre size of 145/70 R 12.
Second Chapter

Caption: 1. Front disc brakes, 2. independent front suspension, 3. rack and pinion steering gear box, 4. hand brake applied to the rear wheels, 5. independent rear suspension, 6. rear drum brakes, 7. 5-speed gear box and differential gear in one housing, 8. four stroke four cylinder in-line engine, 9. generator 12V 560W, 10. air-filter box, 11. ignition distributor, 12. steering wheel, 13. brake main cylinder.
Third Chapter
Even from today's view, the engine is of a quite advanced design:
  • 4 cylinder in-line,
  • single toothed-belt driven OHC,
  • liquid cooling,
  • 970 cc,
  • 49 hp @ 5000 rpm,
  • max. torque 83 Nm @ 2500 rpm.
Is anybody out there in the web who still owns or drives such a rare car. I'd be happy to receive your e-mails containing your personal experience or pictures of that car.
